What kind of believer will not invest in bible translations and spiritual books to further his understanding and to prosper his believing?
What kind of believer does not ceaseless read his bible?
It is like a trained soldier who doesn't use his armoury or a professional who refuses to become better in his specialization.
The bible is the Christian's guide and every believes' modus operandi.
Jesus asked the Pharisees of his day, "have you not read so much..." Believing requires much reading of scriptures! Just as faith require much hearing of the God's word.
When you habitually read scriptures, the less explanation you will be needing.
The dots begin to connect and fit into one another and the Holy Spirit will begin to teach and show you things he hid in the word for you.
I noticed that when you consistently read the scriptures, it will start colouring your thoughts and talk unconsciously. Truth literally takes over your mind and alters your behaviour.
A believer without any visible commitment to reading and studying scriptures will always have pastors who are not grounded tossing them with varying doctrine. He won't go far, or accomplish noteworthy transformation in his own affairs.
You want to know God, get into the scriptures, he is all over it loudly and boldly.
Reading the Bible will do the following.
Teaches us to imitate God.
“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children” (Ephesians 5:1).
Help us discover our next step.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).
Keeps us from sin.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11).
Renew our minds so we can know God’s will.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).
