Facebook released a new camera features for their texting app messenger that includes skin smoothing fake portrait along with boomerang support.

Not so long ago an app researcher Jane Manchun Wong tweeted about Facebook testing out a new messenger selfie mode that’ll include the skin smoothing effects. Almost a month later, Facebook rolls out the boomerang, AR stickers and then the Selfie Mode.
You might already be familiar with Boomerang present in Instagram camera. Boomerang “takes a burst of photos and stitches them together into a high-quality mini video that plays forward and backward.” Now, you can make those short looping videos in messenger as well with the introduction of boomerang.
So what the new Selfie Mode has to offer that isn’t in the ordinary camera. The selfie mode works as a portrait camera feature that blurs the background. The portrait camera has been the highlight of many phones first introduced in iPhone 7 Plus. With this selfie mode, you’ll be able to blur your selfies even if you have a single front-facing camera. But it doesn’t end here. This new messenger selfie mode also brings a beauty enhancing skin softening feature.

Stickers have played a significant part in everyone’s conversation for expressing feelings and emotions. In this new update, Facebook introduces stickers powered by augmented reality. As already seen in other social apps like Snapchat. About AR stickers Facebook said: “With over 440 million stickers sent in Messenger chats every day, we want to make sure people continue to have plenty of ways to express themselves, especially during the holiday season. Starting Monday, you will also find new stickers, powered by AR, which can be dragged with a touch on the screen and be placed on top of your real-world videos or photos. If you take photos or videos with your device’s camera, you can also upload the image to Messenger and apply camera filters and effects to your conversations and stories.”
This surely is a significant update introduced by the social giants making messenger more functional. If you have an up-to-date messenger app you might already see the new features appearing when you open the camera.
