Swansea City winger Daniel James got Manchester United fans excited after he obliged one supporter’s request to delete a tweet praising Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah .

The Wales international has emerged as a shock £15m target forOle Gunnar Solskjaer as he looks to bolster his attacking options, with some reports claiming a deal is very close to being done.

Within minutes of the news emerging, fans were already sifting back through James’ old tweets and stumbled upon one praising Salah last year.

James, who is one of few players who might actually be able to keep up with the Egyptian, wrote ‘Salah is some player’ after his brace in the 5-2 win over Roma in last year’s Champions League semi-final.

That didn’t sit too well with one United fan, who messaged James saying, ‘You better delete this if you join bro.’

And, astonishingly, James actually did delete the tweet, prompting fans to speculate that there might be some substance to the rumours that the 21-year-old is set to move to Old Trafford.

James only had one year left on his contract with Swansea and is seen as a vastly cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho on the right wing, who looks set to remain at Borussia Dortmund.

Solskjaer was asked about the rumours on Friday and explained: ‘I don’t know how many names have been mentioned since I’ve come in. There are players I’ve barely seen that I’ve read we are going to sign. There’s loads of speculation.’

He added: ‘I can’t comment on every single individual. Many players, as I’ve said. I don’t like when other managers talk about my players and I wouldn’t talk about others, even if I wasn’t or if I was interested.’
