LEKKI HOTEL GANG RAPE: Nigerian Lady Withdraws Case Against Her Rapists
The 24-year-old lady who was allegedly drugged and raped by her boyfriend and his friend, Don-Chima George and Olusegun Rasaq, in a hotel in Lekki, Lagos on February 3rd, has asked that the criminal suit filed against them be withdrawn.
On May 15th, the lady accused the duo of spiking her glass of Hennessey and Coca-cola at the Kabaal Night club in Ikoyi, Lagos and then took her to the De-Lankaster Hotel in Lekki owned by George's father, where she lost consciousness and was subsequently raped. The rape was filmed.
At the resumed hearing of the case at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court today June 13th, the lady asked for the case to be withdrawn in a letter written to the presiding judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye.
In the letter dated June 3rd and addressed to the Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), the victim said her decision for the case to be withdrawn is based on “intervention of family members” and for the sake of her integrity.
The Deputy-Director in the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) and lead state prosecutor, Akin George, however, opposed the request of the victim for the case to be withdrawn. He told the court that the victim had not informed him or the office of the Attorney-General (AG) that she wanted the case withdrawn.
Justice Soladoye said that the court would continue with proceedings and that bail would not be granted to the defendants because the court had already delivered a ruling denying them bail.
The case was adjourned to June 18 for the continuation of trial.
