Why Are Christians Worshipping, And Praising Jesus, Is He God? Pastor Chris Gives Details

In the ambience of Religion many have often wondered who God was, considering the many names of God in several cultures and folklores. So many religions have asserted that they worship the true God, leaving their followers in so much dilemma, if they had made the right choice of religion. There have been a lot of controversy surrounding Jesus, whether or not He is God. This article takes a dig at the subject.

You may wonder why man is so passionate about religion? Well, the answer may not be farfetched; owing to man's intrinsic nature as a super excellent being, who mostly likely was the flawless creation of an excellent God. In essence, man is a part of religion, and in turn, religion is part of man. So you may find it hard separating one from the other because everyone believe in something.

Amongst the world's most popular religions only a few like Christianity, Islam, and Eckankar ever recognized the existence of Jesus.

However, in one online discuss with popular preacher Pastor Chris, the question as to the deity of Jesus arose.

A viewer from Canada asked Pastor Chris, Is Jesus the same as God? I know about the concept of the Trinity, but I am still in doubt if Jesus is God. Also, when I pray, I only pray to God in Jesus name, I don't pray to Jesus Himself. Again, why is that many Christians do praise, and worship Jesus instead of God?

Pastor Chris gives a well detailed and insightful answer to the questions asked.

I will begin by reading to you Jesus' declarations in the book of John chapter 14 on who He is.

"4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works` sake."

What Jesus said to His disciples in verse 6 was very remarkable. Study it closely you will notice He used a definite article as to who His personality was. He didn't say I am a way, a truth, or a life. He said I am the Life. Next He says no one reaches the Father except by me.

In verse 7 and 8 Jesus revealed more about His personality, when He said if you have seen me, then you have seen the father. He also explained that the father in Him does the works that many see Him do.

We must recall that before these statements, He was talking about returning to Heaven. He talked about His father in Heaven, now He is talking about the father in Him. To have a more detailed narrative on this issue, I would read from the book of Colossians 1:13-19.

"13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell."

The above scripture said He is the image of the invisible God. The term 'invisible' is the characteristics of God. It tells us that God is invisible but His visible image is Jesus. In verse 16, it tells us that all things were created for Him, or by Him. Now, if He isn't God who then is He? It clearly points to us that Jesus is God. In verse 17 it says He is before all things. Only God was before anything ever created. Then verse 18 & 19 makes understand that the whole Deity dwell in Jesus.

If you also read Hebrews 1:1-5, you will clearly notice that Jesus is God.

In the book of Daniel in chapter 7, and verse 9, Daniel saw a vision. "9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire."

The description ancient of days is a name used to describe God. In Revelation 1:12-14. John describes Jesus in similitude to the ancient of days. Now, this description brings to remembrance what Jesus said, if you have seen me, then you have seen the father. This is because Jesus is the visible image of God. So if you're planning on seeing God, you are going to see Jesus - the visible image of God.

You may want to ask why was Jesus called the son of God? That is because he was begotten from the word of God, and the word of God is God.

Lastly, you don't pray to Jesus, but you pray to the father in Jesus' name, because he instructed us to do so.
