The news was confirmed by Sky Sports News on Wednesday, October 20th. According to reports, the December meeting will be for member associations rather than another stakeholder group such as the ECA, the World Leagues and the world players' union FIFPRO.

Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger who is in charge of the proposal has said the new format will see fewer qualifiers, with one or at most two international breaks in a season and a mandatory 25-days rest period for players at the end of the summer.

The calendar proposals have been developed by a technical advisory group, led by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, now the chief of global football development at FIFA.

The proposal has received a lot of criticism from other football bodies. UEFA is the major critic of the proposal and has vowed to opt-out of the competition if FIFA decides to proceed with the idea of hosting the World Cup every two years.
