The former Chelsea player achieved this feat in the Round of 16 matches against Poland at the ongoing Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. Giroud scored the opening goal of the match in the last minutes of the first half.
Giroud reacted to his record-breaking moment in an interview with RMC Sports after the game against Poland. He confirmed that breaking the record of Henry has always been his childhood dream.
It is my childhood dream to beat Thierry Henry like that, a lot of people told me it was coming, but now I put that behind me and my obsession is to go as far as possible with the team.
He also emphasized on the fact that the focus of everyone in the team is the next stage of the competition.
