Former National Vice-Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party(Southwest zone), Chief Bode George, said he is shocked about Femi Otedola's endorsement of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the All Progressives Congress' guber candidate for Lagos State governor in 2019.
In a tweet made on Saturday, the business mogul and chairman of Forte Oil PLC, announced Sanwo-Olu as his childhood friend and affirmed him as the "GOVERNOR IN WAITING."
Rumour had gained currency two months ago that Otedola has declared interest to join the Lagos governorship race under the People Democratic Party (PDP), but the business mogul neither denied nor confirmed it.
CEO and publisher of Ovation International Magazine, Dele Momodu, who purveyed the rumour in September maintained that Otedola personally confirmed to him that he had joined the guber race, a claim that turned out to be false by Otedola's endorsement today.
However, George, in a statement on Sunday, expressed damning surprise at Otedola’s for Sanwo-Olu.
The PDP Board of Trustees member said, “That is news to me. That is very interesting. Wonders will never cease. It is very shocking.”
George added, “He has always been with us (PDP). I will call him. I will find out. That is strange.”
He nonetheless maintained that the endorsement will not affect the strategies of the PDP in Lagos.
He said, “No, it doesn’t affect our strategies towards 2019 because he is not in our camp. But it is shocking. He is my aburo (junior) and I am going to find out from him what made him (endorse Sanwo-Olu).
“But he is a thoroughbred Lagosian and the people Bola (Tinubu) is handpicking are all from Ogun State. Is that what he wants for his state? I will ask him.”
