Mike Okiro tasks Nigerians on unity, others
Nigerians have been enjoined to rededicate their lives to what will unite the country.
Speaking with reporters in Port Harcourt, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police and the author of the book titled, Nigeria – The Restructuring Controversy, charged the citizens, irrespective of their professions or political leaning to see the country’s peace and unity as the ultimate goal.
Okiro who was recently honoured with a doctoral degree by a United States of America university for his outstanding contributions to peace and security of Nigeria and Africa, called on politicians to engage in issue-based campaigns rather than throwing mud at each other.
He stressed that “Nigeria’s interest should be paramount in their own hearts.”
He advised politicians not to see political office as a do-or-die affair, adding that in any contest there must be a winner and a loser.
He commended the Federal Government for increasing the salaries of policemen.
He appealed to the law enforcement agencies to stick to their constitutional role and be fair to all in order to ensure free and fair 2019 general elections.
