FACEBOOK could soon have a feature that lets you hide other people's comments without them knowing.
The 'Restrict' tool is already available on Facebook-owned Instagram, and the main Facebook app may follow suit, The Sun can reveal.
Facebook could borrow Instagram's new Restrict feature
Instagram rolled out 'Restrict' as an anti-bullying feature in October.
It's designed to let you secretly ban comments from certain users.
Their comments on your posts won't be visible to anyone other than the person who left them.
And Facebook officials told The Sun said they're considering adopting the feature too.
The person you're Restricting won't know they've been Restricted
The Sun asked Facebook's Namrata Bostrom about whether Restrict would be coming to Facebook.
"We want to learn and see how users behave, how people are using it, how effective it is," said Namrata, a product manager at Facebook.
"And we look at how we could apply that to Facebook.
"There's no decision yet, but we're sure we'll share [the decision]."
She added: "Absolutely anything we learn, we can apply back to Facebook."
Facebook has more than double Instagram's monthly active users, so it may seem odd that Instagram received Restrict first.
But Facebook says this is because Instagram has a younger user-base.
"With Instagram, bullying is something the company is committed to as a big priority.
"Because Instagram's base skew [of users] is younger, bullying has a disproportionately high impact.
Facebook has not made a final decision on the matter, but is simply considering sharing the feature.
Speaking to The Sun, an Instagram spokesperson added: "When we do roll out one thing on a platform, we take lessons and technology and build on them for another.
"[Instagam] skews young and bullying disproportionately affects young people.
"With conversations we have from users – we speak to them a lot – bullying came up.
"Instagram has taken the lead among the company."
How to Restrict someone on Instagram
Here's what you need to know...
On Instagram, Restrict makes a number of changes.
For a start, you can read someone's Direct Messages sent to you without them knowing.
"They won't be able to see when you're online, or if you've read their messages," Instagram explains.
The restricted person's new comments on your posts will only be visible to that person.
You can choose to see the comment by tapping See Comment.
And if you want others to be able to see their comment, you can tap Approve.
Alternatively, you can just delete it or ignore it.
You also won't receive any notifications for future comments from the Restricted person.
In other news, Facebook is working on a 'Close Friends' feature for Stories just like Instagram.
Instagram has removed 1.6million disturbing photos and videos depicting suicide and self-harm.
Facebook recently admitted that a bug was inadvertently accessing iPhone user cameras as they scroll through the app.
And Android users are being warned about the following apps.
